‘City of Gold’ – homage to Dubai’s gold souqs

In the dusty backstreets of one of Dubai’s oldest neighborhoods lies Deira, a place where tradition meets necessity – signs simply marked ‘Al Souq’ emblazoned with the outline of a necklace point the way. The souqs, traditional shopping bazaars native to the Middle East, hint at days that once were.

As we (finally) roll into our version of Autumn, the social calendar is starting to light up again with all kinds of interesting fairs, festivals, concerts etc. Dates have just been announced for one of my personal faves; Sole DXB – a true grassroots event promoting fashion, art & design, music and progressive, urban culture in the region. Pegged for November 18 & 19, 2016, at D3 (Dubai Design District), the inspiration for this latest edition, as shown in the campaign feature film above,  draws inspiration from the 100+ years old gold trading heritage of Dubai’s oldest gold souq neighbourhoods; once a major link in the world’s historic trade routes.
